The
States:
Rivaling
New England for a place in history, the Mid-Atlantic region is
famous for its urge to preserve. In the keystone position among the
original 13 colonies, Pennsylvania is home to Independence Park and
the famous Liberty Bell. Residents from Ben Franklin to Betsy Ross
have graced the state. Founded on principles of tolerance and
brotherly love, the state attracted such groups as Amish, Brethren,
Mennonites, Morravians and Quakers.
Maryland
gave the country it's first commercial railroad, telegraph line,
linotype machine and dental college. From Annapolis, home to the US
Naval Academy, to bustling Baltimore, the state maintains a delicate
balance of city and country, summit and shore, labor and
leisure.
Colonial
Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown Virginia embody the kernel of
American independence. Homes and birthplaces are preserved and open
to the public. Northern Virginia's frenetic pace is borrowed from
neighboring Washington, DC, the seat of power and politics for the
nation. The contrast is dramatic when you venture to the shoreline
at Virginia Beach or south to the rolling hills of
Charlottesville.
