Day 1 & 2 Washington, DC
Welcome to America’s capital! Enjoy the famous monuments, the Smithsonian’s many museums, Arlington Cemetery, the White House, Capitol Building and more. Choose from fabulous eateries, take in a performance at the Kennedy Center or Ford’s Theater. 2 nights Washington, DC at the Renaissance  Mayflower Hotel. Immediately after its opening in 1925, the Mayflower Hotel was known as the “Grande Dame of Washington, D.C.,” boasting more gold than any other building in the country except for the Library of Congress.

 Days 3 & 4:To Charlottesville, VA (115 mi/191 km)
Visit Charlottesville’s treasure, Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Lunch at historic Michie’s Tavern for a taste of colonial America and see Ash Lawn Highland, home of President James Monroe. 2 nights Staunton at the the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, which stands proudly as the cornerstone of Staunton’s downtown area. Days 5 &6: To Asheville, NC (351 mi/583 km)
Travel along the Appalachian Mountains today to Asheville, NC. Visit Biltmore or the Appalachian Crafts Center during your stay. 2 nights Asheville at the Grove Park Inn. You may want to visit Old Salem in Winston- Salem today, as you travel eastward. While in the “Triangle,” there’s more than  enough to keep you busy — from Bull Durham’s ballfield to the Moore Planetarium. 2 nights at the Carolina Inn. Days 9 & 10: To Richmond, VA (166 mi/278km)
In Richmond, the Capital of the Confederacy, visit the Museum and White House of the Confederacy, or National Battlefield Park. Explore Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe Slip. 2 nights Richmond at Linden Row Inn, a historic urban inn with a European style. Experience the Virginia Marine Science Museum or nearby Norfolk, best known as  home of the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets at the US Navy. Stroll through the Norfolk Botanical Gardens or see the the Virginia  Air and Space Center in Hampton. 2 nights Virginia Beach at the Cavalier Hotel. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore was hailed as the largest hotel ever built in the state of Maryland. Days 15: To Washington, DC/Home (38 mi/61km)
