Francis Marion Hotel

Named for Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox," and opened in 1924, the historic Francis Marion Hotel has a 75-year tradition of gracious service, elegant accommodations and splendid banquets and meeting facilities. Built by local investors at a cost of $1.5 million from plans by noted New York architect W.L. Stoddard. The Francis Marion Hotel was the largest and grandest hotel in the Carolinas with 312 guest rooms. The 1920's was the Golden Age of railroads, radio and grand hotels, the Charleston Renaissance was in full bloom and the Francis Marion Hotel was "the place to be."

Meticulously restored in a recent $12 million National Trust for Historic Preservation award-winning restoration, The Francis Marion Hotel now combines 1920's style and grace with 21st Century comfort and convenience in the heart of historic Charleston on Marion Square.

Guests at The Francis Marion Hotel can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in Elliott's on the Square, complete spa services at Spa Adagio, cocktails and piano music in the Lobby Bar and gourmet coffee from Port City Java. The traditional services one expects from a grand hotel are of course available-a doorman and bell service, concierge, valet parking, room service, business center, a newsstand and gift shop, and a well-equipped fitness center.
