Emerson Inn by the Sea

Emerson Inn by the Sea, one of Rockport's original summer hotels, began as the Pigeon Cove House in 1846 when Williams Norwood sold the tavern near the present Pigeon Cove post office in order to relocate to a place better suited to the carriage trade of the day.

In 1965, this elegant historic hotel was restored and renamed for it's most famous guest. "Returned from Pigeon Cove, where we have made acquaintance with the sea for seven days" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
