The Main House of the
Inn dates back to 1798. It likely started out as a small summer
house, typical for this region. According to research by Trevor
Maxwell, a reporter of the local Times, in the 1800's it may have
served as a hiding place for the slaves traveling along the
"Underground Railroad." In his article "Ties to
Freedom" he described the small stone cellar under the inn's
entrance foyer.
The
Main House has four newly renovated bedrooms, each with its own new
bath. Three additional bedrooms are in the "Paddocks,"
again each with full bath. Then there is the Carriage House for the
"homemakers." It has two bedrooms, a small kitchen, a bath
and a spacious living area with fireplace, ideal for a family.
The Inn
stands above Pleasant Bay, yet has a small sandy beach and its own
dock. The view from the Inn and many of its rooms is breathtaking.
Pleasant Bay, is an enchanting heaven for sailing, kayaking,
swimming or strolling along the beach when the tide is out.
Close
by are several challenging golf courses, public and private. The
shops in the villages of Orleans and Chatham are minutes away. If
you are lucky enough to come in the fall, you could witness the
cranberry harvest right next door.
