This 700 acre resort offers
spaciousness, a relaxing atmosphere and accommodations which reflect
an enviable balance of diversity, refinement and comfort - a balance
they've been perfecting for over one hundred years.
In 1882,
Ardelia Beach acquired the Basin Harbor farm consisting of 225 acres
with a farmhouse and outbuildings. By 1886 the place had been
remodeled so that a few guests could be entertained. In 1909, her
nephew, Allen P. Beach, then a sophomore at the University of
Vermont, came to work with her to assist in the operation of the
Lodge. The Beach family still runs the resort today.
For
those who like to set a leisurely pace while they take in the beauty
of the surrounding countryside, bicycle touring has become an
increasingly popular pastime. Or enjoy golf, the
Basin Harbor Club Golf Course was awarded Golf Digest's Places to
Play 4½ Star Rating in Spring 2000. The course is well manicured
and quite demanding.
At
Basin Harbor, guests are offered an array of sumptuous dining
options. The cuisine is classic American, distinguished by its
special attention to healthy recipes and fresh ingredients from
local Vermont farms. The lakeside Main Dining Room serves breakfast
and dinner daily. Sunday The casual Red Mill, open daily for lunch
and dinner, features a lighter fare.
Above
all else, Basin Harbor is a family resort. In fact, many families
have such a deep connection to Basin Harbor that they have returned
for five generations. Whether it’s an annual trip to a favorite
cottage or a family reunion by the lake, everyone appreciates the
relaxed atmosphere and varied activities.
