The Nonantum Resort

A favorite lodging and resort since the late 19th century, the Nonantum is situated in picturesque Kennebunkport (not far from the summer home of former President George Bush) and the spectacular views of Maine's rocky coastline.

In the article "Nonantum's Hidden Gardens", Jerry Howard may leave some readers believing Nonantum means "The Lake", whereas it is an Algonquian word for "Rejoicing". Nonantum is the area where Chief Thomas Waban gathered a settlement from fragmented tribes of Native Americans in the mid-17th century. The settlement, upon adopting Christianity and the white man's form of government called the place Nonantum and developed it into a small trading center where they sold native wares, fish, venison and berries.

The Nonantum Resort is a short walk to the center of Kennebunkport, with fine shops, art galleries and historic landmarks. You can walk to a nearby beach or to the summer home of the Bush family to view the spectacular rocky coast of Maine.

Relax along the banks of the Kennebunk River, as you watch the sailing and fishing boats pass by. Take a swim or lounge by our outdoor heated pool and hot tub. The Nonantum Resort is dedicated to providing their guests with the highest quality of service.
